GOLDFIELD — On Friday at 8:08 p.m., Timothy Daugherty, 44, of Pahrump was struck and killed on U.S. 95 at mile post 5 in Esmeralda County (about two miles north of Lida Junction/State Route 266).

Daugherty had been driving a 1997 Dodge Stratus registered to Stevi Tucker of the same Pahrump address. The Dodge had apparently ran out of gas at mile post 6.

Daugherty was reported to have been walking in the roadway just prior to the accident. Robert Wiley, 56, of Tucson, Ariz. (formerly of Reno) was traveling south on U.S. 95 in a 17-foot U-Haul box van. Wiley reportedly saw Daugherty in the travel lane attempting to flag him down. By the time Wiley saw Daugherty is was too late to avoid striking him with the U-Haul. Daugherty was pronounced dead at the scene.

Wiley was uninjured. No charges have been filed and the investigation is continuing.
