RENO — This year’s Hot August Nights Foundation raffle car winner will pick up his newly won ’67 Chevy Camaro today at the Hot August Nights Office.

On Saturday, the Hot August Nights Foundation drew the winning ticket for the 2010 raffle car, which is a 1967 Chevy Camaro RSS/SS. Its estimated value is upwards of $45,000.

More than $61,000 were raised for the Hot August Nights Foundation over the course of the year by selling raffle tickets for as little as $1 each. Sales began in May and ended on Saturday, just one hour before the big drawing during the Hot August Nights season finale car show, Fall Frenzy, which took place this year at the Circus Circus Hotel Casino. Tickets are sold at Wednesday Cruise Nights, Cinco De Mayo, Sparks Hometowne Farmer’s Markets, at the Hot August Nights events, the Nevada State Fair, Best in the West Nugget Rib Cook-off and the National Championship Air Races.

This year’s winner, Terry Schlesener, a former Renoite who now lives in Cypress, Texas, purchased the winning ticket at the 2010 Best in the West Nugget Rib Cook-Off.

Annual raffle car sales generate the majority of funds raised by the foundation throughout the year. This fundraising effort is made possible by Don and Normandy Brooks of B & T Custom Rod and Restoration, who generously donate the raffle car to the foundation each year.

The Hot August Nights Foundation is a nonprofit that works to improve the lives of kids that are in need and at risk. The funds raised primarily go towards scholarships that are awarded in conjunction with the Boys & Girls Club of the Truckee Meadows, to support the students at O’Brien Middle School and to assist with other charitable organizations within the Truckee Meadows Community.
