RENO — At last month’s Learning Express Convention, local store owners Suzanne and Wade Peterson received the Discovery Award. The award recognizes their commitment to sharing information about new product performance with the rest of the Learning Express franchise.

The Petersons opened their Learning Express toy store at 197 Damonte Ranch Pkwy. in November 2007. They have made noteworthy contributions to the franchise ever since. The Marketing Award was presented by Ariel Faulkner, a member of the Learning Express home office staff.

“When Suzanne and Wade get behind something, they dedicate themselves completely,” Faulkner said. “A recent example is the book ‘Only One You’ by children’s author and illustrator Linda Kranz. After seeing how inspirational it was for so many of their customers, they set out to spread the word. They reached out to a local school and coordinated a school-wide art project, which then became a permanent part of the school’s newly designed entrance and will be added to by each kindergarten class for years to come.

“And as if that wasn’t enough, they then arranged for the author herself to make an appearance at the ribbon cutting and sign copies of the book,” Kranz added. “An entire community came together and Suzanne and Wade were right in the middle of it.”

The Learning Express annual convention was held June 28 through 30 at the Omni Orlando Resort at Champions Gate. Learning Express corporate staff, the owners of more than 140 Learning Express toy stores and more than 100 of the world’s top toy vendors gathered to make decisions that will shape this year’s holiday shopping season.
