RENO — The Reno-Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority (RSCVA) announced Tuesday that Tammy Johnson has accepted the national convention sales manager position for the agency. The position is responsible for selling the Reno, Sparks and North Lake Tahoe area as a convention destination and for achieving the sales targets and objectives for the RSCVA.

The position is based in the Chicago area and Johnson’s territory will include Chicago and portions of the Midwest and Northeast. The position will report to the RSCVA’s vice president of convention sales.  Her first day on the job is May 10.

“Johnson is an experienced sales professional who has diverse experience generating a variety of convention center and hotel bookings,” said Ellen Oppenheim, RSCVA president and CEO. “She brings valuable sales experience to the position and will play an integral role in positioning northern Nevada for more group sales and convention business to the destination from the Midwest.”

Prior to accepting this position, Johnson has worked for the San Jose Convention and Visitors Bureau as a national sales manager. She has also worked for the Lake County Convention and Visitors Bureau in Lake County, Ind. as its sales and marketing manager.

She is a member of the Professional Convention Management Association, Meeting Professionals International, the Association Forum, ASAE and the Chicago Area Convention Bureau satellite offices.

“I am looking forward to showing different associations the diverse amenities and great value Reno/Tahoe offers meeting planners,” Johnson said. “Reno/Tahoe is an attractive destination offering exceptional customer service and hospitality to different groups and associations it services. From spectacular special events available and the close proximity to Lake Tahoe and the downtown redevelopment that is taking place I am excited to bring groups here to experience the destination first hand.”
