The Cougars were more efficient from the field, shooting 23-of-38, and secured a 55-48 victory behind the strength of Ari James' 18 points on a near-perfect 7-of-8 from the floor.
James also pulled down seven rebounds as Spanish Springs out-rebounded the Wildcats 40-24. Franklin made 23 of 66 shot attempts.
The Purple and Teal fell to a 9-4 deficit to start the game, but a 3-pointer by Jackie Moore gave the Cougs a 12-9 lead at the 2:40 mark of the first quarter and they never trailed again.
Spanish Springs (8-4) took a 28-21 edge into halftime only to see the Wildcats rally for four straight points to initiate the second half. However, the 28-25 margin was as close as Franklin (10-2) would get.
The Cougars led by double digits, 41-31, at the end of the third quarter and Julianna Waller's putback made it a game-high 43-31 lead.
SSHS senior forward Kelly Hernandez pulled down 11 rebounds to go with her 12 points for a double-double. Sam Owens chipped in 11 points by making 5 of her 8 shots.
The Cougars remain in the winners' bracket of the 16-team tournament and will face off with Vista del Lago today at 10:30 a.m.
