Nevada Highway Patrol troopers are re-routing traffic through Fernley after four tractor trailer rigs, three pickups and one SUV became tangled in a crash around 1:30 p.m.

One accident victim was confirmed dead at the scene and two others are being extracted at this time according to trooper Chuck Allen.

Those who are stuck in the traffic, which is miles deep, will be stuck for a while, Allen said.

Although the accident closed Interstate 80 westbound near mile marker 81, he eastbound lanes of Interstate 80 remain open.

Preliminary reports from Allen stated that the accident was probably due to poor visibility.

He urged motorists to use extra caution when driving in low visibility areas.

More details will be published as they become available.
