Washoe County Search and Rescue received a donation this month of a vehicle that will enhance their off-road capabilities in difficult terrain and remote areas.

Local philanthropist and businessman Philip G. Satre said he wasn’t driving his white 1998 Hummer H1 much so he donated the vehicle to Washoe County Search and Rescue, Inc. (WCSAR) one of seven nonprofit volunteer groups that make up the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue Unit. The unit is tasked with saving lives and providing assistance to lost and injured people in Washoe County and adjacent areas.

WCSAR volunteers contribute countless personal hours to assist the community in numerous search and rescue missions each year. The team uses four-wheel drive vehicles to access areas and search for lost persons. They are trained in skills such as avalanche safety, advanced first aid, winter survival and land navigation, along with professional search and rescue techniques.
