Sparks police said Monday that the man killed in a Saturday car crash on Vista Boulevard has been identified as Kristoffer Prinz.
The crash early Saturday morning knocked over a power pole and caused a wide power outage.
At 2:36 a.m., Sparks Police responded to the incident in the area of Vista Boulevard and Alpland Lane. Police discovered that a white 2003 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck driven by Prinz, a 24-year-old California resident with family in the area, had crashed into a power pole, causing the transformer to explode. The vehicle was traveling north on Vista approaching Alpland when, for unknown reasons, it drifted off the roadway onto a greenbelt on the east side of the roadway. The vehicle then spun, re-entered the road, struck a power pole and rolled over. Prinz, the car's only occupant, was ejected from the vehicle and suffered fatal injuries.
Police said the cause of the accident is under investigation.
