RENO — 175 volunteers participated in the 2009 Make a Difference Day tree planting that took place on Saturday. About 200 trees donated by AT&T Real Yellow Pages with the assistance of the National Arbor Day Foundation were planted at Rancho San Rafael Regional Park, Hidden Valley Regional Park, Dick Taylor Memorial Park, Melody Lane Park and Sparks Boulevard.

“The planting of these trees not only has a lasting impact in our community parks, but also with the volunteers who helped plant them,” said Maia Dickerson, program director of Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful. “These trees are a lasting symbol of AT&T’s dedication to our community.”

The trees were a gracious donation through the annual “Project ReDirectory” Phone Books for Trees campaign in which AT&T Real Yellow Pages donates 17 trees for every one ton of phone books recycled at select area parks. This year the program will run from Nov. 16 through Dec. 31. To view all of this year’s phone book recycling locations, including Scolari’s, Sak N’ Save, AT&T and Waste Management drop-off locations and curbside information visit www.ktmb.org.

Make a Difference Day was coordinated by Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful with the support of Washoe County Regional Parks and Open Space, City of Reno Parks and Urban Forestry, City of Sparks Parks and Recreation, AT&T Real Yellow Pages, National Arbor Day Foundation, Nevada Shade Tree Council and AT&T Pioneers.
