CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — The U.S. Labor Department says Nevada's workplace safety program is in "urgent" need of oversight corrections.

An 80-page report released Tuesday cited Nevada's program for poorly trained inspectors, lack of follow-up investigations and failure to issue appropriate willful and repeat citations for workplace hazards.

The federal review was launched after 25 construction workers on high-rise projects along the Las Vegas Strip were killed from January 2008 through June 2009.

Federal officials identified a number of serious "systematic" concerns with Nevada's workplace safety oversight, including hazards that were not cited, investigators with limited knowledge of construction safety, and failure to notify family members of deceased workers that a death investigation was being conducted.
