RENO — Homecoming has been a tradition at the University of Nevada, Reno since the university’s first football game against the Utah State Aggies in 1920. This year’s Dr. Seuss themed homecoming, “Blue Pack, Silver Pack, Our Pack, Wolf Pack,” will be from Oct. 18-24. Homecoming is a chance for the community to get involved with the only university in Reno. Several homecoming events this year are focused on student involvement and community interaction.

The Associated Students of the University of Nevada is hosting the Blue Flu barbecue at the Joe Crowley Student Union Plaza from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Oct. 23. The Blue Flu barbecue is to encourage students, alumni and community members to take a break from school and work to find a cure for their Nevada “Blue Flu.” The only cure for this flu is to celebrate homecoming with fellow Nevada fans. That night, the annual bonfire is at 6 p.m. at Piccolo Park at the university. The “If I ran the circus Bonfire” incorporates the Dr. Seuss theme of this year’s homecoming week.

The last community-oriented event will be 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Oct. 24. The “And to think that I saw it on Virginia Street” homecoming parade will begin at the intersection of Ninth and Virginia streets and will continue up Virginia Street to the student union. Breakfast will be available at the student union free of charge at 9 a.m. Parade participants will showcase their school pride by incorporating this year’s Dr. Seuss theme and the Wolf Pack into their creative float design. ASUN encourages both students and the community to attend the big event.

On Oct. 24, the Nevada Wolf Pack will take on the University of Idaho Vandals at 1:05 p.m. at Mackay Stadium.
