The Department of Public Safety—Nevada Highway Patrol, is currently investigating a fatal accident that occurred Sunday on Interstate 80, one mile west of Wendover, Nev. The accident happened around 7:55 a.m.
A preliminary investigation indicated that Simon Rosas, 45, from West Jordan, Utah, was driving a 2004 Chevy Tahoe eastbound on I-80 in the fast lane.
Rosas allowed the Chevy to drift off into the median. He then overcorrected the vehicle back onto the highway.
The vehicle rotated clockwise and crossed both eastbound travel lanes. It overturned several times coming to rest on its wheels south of I-80.
A 5-year-old girl seated in the third row of the vehicle died at the scene. She was wearing a seatbelt.
There were eight occupants (including the driver) in the Chevy Tahoe. All of them had their seatbelts on and all of them were family members from West Jordan.
Preliminary investigation also indicates that driver inattention may be a contributing factor in this accident.
