RENO — Borders Books and the Keaton Raphael Memorial are asking the community to donate children’s and teen’s books to help fill the shelves of Kylee’s Korner at the new Children’s Infusion Center at Renown Children’s Hospital. The book drive is being held through Sept. 7 at Borders Bookstore located at 4995 S. Virginia St.

The new library is in honor of Kylee LeSourd, an 8-year-old Reno girl who recently lost her battle with cancer. One of Kylee’s favorite things to do was read books. Her family would like to share her love of reading with other children who are undergoing cancer treatment. Children can spend six to eight hours a day undergoing treatment that can last for months or years. Kylee’s family is asking the community to help fill those hours with books.

Cancer is currently the no. 1 disease killer of children. After Robyn Raphael’s son, Keaton, died from neuroblastoma in 1997, she created a nonprofit organization to help childhood cancer families in Northern California and Nevada. Since inception, the organization has stayed committed to helping families through research, education, patient care and advocacy of child cancer. For more information, visit www.childcancer.org.
