Reno was in control through much of the game, taking a 5-1 lead through 4 1⁄2 innings and holding onto a 5-4 advantage through five. In the sixth, though, the Bees tapped Reno reliever Jason Urquidez for two runs to take a 6-5 lead.
The Aces put the tying and go-ahead runners on base with nobody out in the ninth, but a fly out and double play groundout stalled the threat and ended the ballgame.
Reno starter Seth Etherton allowed four runs on eight hits over five innings. Etherton walked three and struck out five. The loss fell to Urquidez (0-1), who allowed two runs over the game's final three frames.
Pitching on a Major League Rehab Assignment, Salt Lake's Kelvim Escobar allowed five runs - four earned - over five innings of work. He allowed eight hits, walking two and striking out one in an 89-pitch effort. The win went to Francisco Rodriguez (3-1), who worked two scoreless innings. Jeremy Hill picked up the save (11).
The first four hitters in the Aces lineup each collected two hits on the night.
The Aces now hit the second leg of a three-city road trip, as they'll visit the Tacoma Rainiers. In today's opener, Reno hands the baseball to RHP Hector Ambriz (1-2, 5.08 ERA), while Tacoma will counter with RHP Josh Hall (2-0, 6.14 ERA). First pitch is set for 7 p.m., and the action can be heard live on Fox Sports Radio 1450 AM.
The Aces return home on June 11 for a four-game set with Salt Lake and a three-game series with intrastate rival Las Vegas.
