Area providers are asked to consider routine STD testing for patients and also when symptoms suggest a STD infection. Asking patients their sexual history and practices is a crucial piece of medical history that is often missed. Many STDs are misdiagnosed or not diagnosed, leading to serious complications that can be fatal if left untreated. Community members are encouraged to seek STD testing through their primary care provider or the WCHD’s Sexual Health Clinic.
Routine testing is important if an individual is engaging in unprotected sex. Safer sex practices are urged, including consistent condom use. Free condoms are available throughout the community, including the WCHD.
WCHD staff is available to answer questions for providers and community members. STD testing, including HIV is also available through WCHD’s Sexual Health Clinic on a sliding fee scale based on income. Appointments can be made by calling (775) 328-2470. Staff are available to answer questions and provide more information by contacting (775) 328-6147 or email@example.com.
