RENO — Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada (CCNN) is asking community members for donations of pre-filled Easter baskets for the children (ages 0-12) who are served by the organization's nine poverty-assistance programs.

CCNN will distribute the baskets at our “Operation: Easter Basket” pancake breakfast and party at our St. Vincent’s Dining Room on April 13 from 10 a.m. to noon. The baskets will go to local children ages 0-12 whose parents cannot afford to buy them an Easter basket or presents. Many of the children we serve are either homeless or living temporarily in local motels and other low income housing facilities. Because of the success of CCNN's annual “Operation: Stocking Stuffer” event, St. Vincent’s staff elected to expand the reach by offering a similar event in the spring.

The following donations are needed:

•Pre-filled, age (0-12) and gender neutral Easter baskets of a $10 maximum value,  (candy, toys, toiletries, games, etc.)

•Easter decorations, candy, toys, plastic eggs

•Cash donations to purchase baskets

The donation deadline is April 4. Baskets can be dropped off at our St. Vincent’s Thrift Shop at 500 E. Fourth St. (corner of Valley and Fourth) in Reno. Please specify upon drop off that the items are for “Operation: Easter Basket.” To make a cash donation to go toward the event, please send checks to: PO Box 5099 Reno, NV 89513 or contact Emelie Williams at 322-7073.
