The Spanish Springs boys basketball team wrapped up its three-day Chico, Calif. tournament on Saturday after getting saddled with a 65-59 loss to Oroville, Calif.

The Cougars had dropped their opener at the tournament, which was hosted by Pleasant Valley High School, last Thursday to Clovis North of suburban Fresno. Then on Friday, the Cougars pasted Downey of Modesto.

The 1-2 tournament road trip was not what Spanish Springs had hoped for. The Cougars sit 4-4 overall and return to the hardwood next Thursday for a High Desert League game at North Valleys.

On Saturday, Spanish Springs fell victim to mediocre second and third quarters. Spanish Springs ran out to a 17-14 lead after one period, but it was outscored 19-10 and 15-10 in the second and third quarters, en route to falling behind 51-37.

The deficit proved too much to overcome. The Cougars outscored the Tigers (4-1) 22-17 in the final eight minutes to account for the final margin.

Three Cougars finished in double digits in the scoring column. Hunter Fralick, Kenny Meyer and Dupree Kness scored 15, 13 and 11 points respectively for the SSHS crew.
