Sparks fell at Lowry in straight sets Wednesday night (25-8, 25-9, 25-7) but the 2013 campaign isn't so much about wins and losses as it is about making progress and preparing for 2014.
"My girls are brand new and trying to figure it out still," Elliott said.
Instead of worrying about the score of their opponents, Elliott tells her girls to play games five points at a time. The method draws strange looks from the opposition from time to time because the girls celebrate like they won the set but it is something Elliott believes is a strong motivation tool.
Sparks remains winless this season but Elliott says her team has not thrown in the towel.
"They all really hustle and they're doing their best," Elliott said. "I know next year is going to be a better squad and as long as they're trying their best, that's all I can ask for. They're progressing."
The Railroaders play at South Tahoe Friday.
