RENO — United Way of Northern Nevada and the Sierra (UWNNS) and local volunteers from Wells Fargo Bank will install the region’s second Born Learning Trail, an interactive, playful outdoor learning tool that promotes early literacy and encourages physical activity for young kids. The trail is part of United Way’s Born Learning program, a long-‐standing initiative to support early learning and school readiness, and is based on a powerful body of research.

The Born Learning Trail install will begin at noon on Thursday at Miguel Ribera Park located at 3925 Neil Rd. in Reno. The first Born Learning Trail was installed earlier this year as part of United Way’s annual Day of Action at Wheatland Park in Reno.

The trail is a user-‐friendly way to engage parents, as well as people in the community-‐to help improve children's language and literacy skills while encouraging families to get active. The trail will have ten fun outdoor/indoor games on engaging signs in both English and Spanish, each with an easy activity combining early literacy skill development and movement.

The United Way of Northern Nevada and the Sierra nurtures and supports healthy lives is made up of three, interconnected ‘building blocks’ – education, financial stability and health. United Way is ideally suited to create positive, lasting change by addressing all three areas as one – through proper expertise, capacity and relationships.
