Project 150 was inspired by a television news story about 150 homeless students at Rancho High that aired in December 2011. Two locals who grew up and attended school in Las Vegas, Don Purdue and Patrick Spargur, saw the story and visited the school to verify the report. In two weeks time they rallied donations from friends and colleagues and delivered several truckloads of food and supplies for students.
Today, Project 150 serves 20 Las Vegas high schools in collaboration with like-minded charities and community organizations. Project 150 plans to reach out and help more northern Nevada High Schools in its mission to keep high school students in school through graduation.
