Reed volleyball coach Kris Flagvedt could not have asked for a better final nonconference match Thursday night at Truckee. Her team battled. Her team overcame adversity. And oh yeah, her team won.

After dropping two of the first three games, the Raiders won the final two to squeeze out a 3-2 (17-25, 25-17, 22-25, 25-17, 15-13) nonconference win. Reed improved to 6-2 on the season with the win.

“They pushed us and that’s what you want,” Flagvedt said. “That’s great for a nonconference game.

Trailing 2-1, Flagvedt’s message to her team was simple.

“We were playing a little sloppy so it was not so much focusing on the other side. We had to play cleaner on our side.”

The final score was close but a number of Raiders had a stat day.

Moriah Maluatoga racked up 26 kills and 15 digs. Emilie Braun chucked in 15 kills and 15 digs of her own. Annie Braun, who was fighting for the starting setting job before the season started, passed out 39 assists. Kelsey Donohoe, who Flagvedt gave special praise to, added 30 digs.

“It was just amazing some of the balls she got up,” Flagvedt said.

Illiana Orsi rounded out the Raiders who kept the statisticians busy all night, chipping in 12 digs and three aces.

“It was a really fun game to watch and to be a part of,” Flagvedt said.

Reed opens the conference portion of its schedule Tuesday night at Galena.
