RENO — To celebrate National Volunteer Week, taking place this week, employees at NV Energy will be gathering to pack bags with healthy snacks to be distributed with the Food Bank of Northern Nevada’s Commodity Supplemental Food Program. Volunteers will work from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the NV Energy headquarter building’s auditorium, located at 6100 Neil Road in Reno.

Through the program, the food bank provides a monthly box of supplemental food to qualified low-income seniors, pregnant and nursing mothers and families with children up to 6 years old. About 2,400 people, mostly seniors, received monthly boxes of food from the program during the past year.

The employee volunteers at NV Energy will be stuffing bags with snack items such as apple sauce, cereal bars and tuna so that northern Nevada residents benefiting from the food bank program will receive a little something extra with their next box of supplemental food. The volunteers plan on packing at least 2,600 bags in two hours.
