Railroaders pound Incline for sweep

Coming off of a split with South Tahoe, the Sparks baseball team returned to Mount Rose League in fine fashion, sweeping Incline in a doubleheader Saturday, 25-7 and 11-1.

In a pair of mercy-rule shortened contests that went five innings each, the Railroaders flexed their muscles at the dish.

In Game 1 the Maroon and Gold eased their way to a 7-4 lead through two innings before erupting for 12 runs in the third.

With the scoreboard reading 19-5 at the end of three innings, Sparks tacked on six more in the top of the fourth. The Railroaders belted out 19 hits in the contest.

The momentum carried over into Game 2 as SHS stayed hot at the dish.

Sparks posted four runs in the top of the first inning followed by a run in the third to take a 5-1 lead. In the fourth, the Railroaders brought sent five runners around the bases before adding another in the fifth to put the mercy rule in place.

In the first tilt, Casey Carter led the Railroaders at the dish with a 5-for-6 effort, including a pair of home runs and a double for seven RBI. Austin Garrick and Tyler Crow added three RBI each. Collin Ray was 3-for-4 with a triple, while Dustin Alexander and Travis Dulgar both went 2-for-4.

Game 2 saw Alexander add four RBI to his day with a 2-for-2 effort, including a home run. Not to be outdone, Jared Longland added three RBI with a homer to his 3-for-3 effort at the dish. Carter and Brandon Coleman both went 2-for-3 with doubles.

On the mound, Alexander and Carter earned complete-game victories. Alexander was on the bump in Game 1, giving up six hits and five runs along with seven walks while striking out nine. Carter allowed one run and four hits in Game 2, striking out eight along the way.

Sparks (10-5, 7-5) will now head into its final week of the regular season as it hosts Truckee Wednesday at 4 p.m.
