Bret's Baseball Academy hosted its first-ever spring break this week. Local youths from across Sparks and Reno took part in the four-day event.

The academy has long held youth camps over the summer and winter breaks, but for the first time hosted a spring break camp. Twenty seven young area athletes signed up for the inaugural event, held at the Academy's east Sparks warehouse, adjacent to Glendale Avenue.

Academy Director Bret Pagni and his staff of coaches worked with the young baseball players on the fundamentals of the game, including pitching, hitting, fielding, baserunning and game etiquette. Campers also got to participate in a three-day 'whiffle ball world series' to showcase their new skills.

Bret's Baseball Academy oversees the Muckdogs baseball club and Nevada Lightning softball club. For more information on the academy's camps and clubs, call 856-2434.
