“We’ve been blessed for the last 13 years to have Paula Edmonds who did a phenomenal job,” said Ron Coombs, Reed Athletic Director. “Jessica coming in obviously has those shoes to fill, but I think the exciting thing is that she understands it’s her program and she’s going to mold it into what she wants it to be, and we’ve encouraged her to do that. We’re excited for her to be in.
“Her attitude and her organization as well as her excitement for the program is what I think really impressed the interviewing committee. We had an interview committee of six and she was the unanimous pick so I think that speaks for itself. She was very well prepared and excited and I think that’s really what set her apart.”
Along with her enthusiasm for the position, Bradshaw also boasts an impressive resume.
Bradshaw was a member of the McQueen cheer team while she was in high school before joining the cheerleading team at the University of Nevada. After that, Bradshaw returned to the home of the Lancers to take the reins of the cheer program for three years from 2005-2008. Since then Bradshaw has joined Ignite Athletics, an all-star cheer gym in South Reno where she is both a coach as well as a member of the Ignite level four open team.
It was at Ignite that Bradshaw heard about the opening at RHS as a couple of girls she coaches at Ignite also attend Reed. Although tryouts are not until the end of May, Bradshaw is eager to getting things under way with the Raiders.
“The most exciting thing for me is that I get to be a part of the girls’ high school experience,” Bradshaw said. “I loved my coaches in high school. They really shaped who I am today, so I am excited and I look forward to being that for the girls that are going to be on the future teams at Reed High School.”
Once the team has been established following tryouts, Bradshaw said she plans to go right into summer workouts and camps due to the early start to the school year next fall.
“I’m looking forward to being at football games with them and competing,” Bradshaw said. “We’re going to have a competition team, so we’ll be competing at tournaments and I’m looking forward to getting started on that as well.”
