The ribbon cutting kicked off the day’s entertainment at 9:30 a.m. before the store's opening at 10 a.m. when a live DJ and local area dance groups took over the store. Store Manager Amie Ambers said Friday that the few weeks since the soft opening have shown a lively customer turnout leading her to believe the store will thrive at its new spot.
“We definitely have had a lot of great customers coming in and shopping us,” Ambers said. “Everyone seems to be loving the new store layout and design of it. Customers are just really happy with us being in this location.”
The Legends location, in addition to being the only Old Navy outlet store in northern Nevada, features a newly designed layout not found in any other Old Navy. Ambers said the layout caters to a customer’s ability to view the entire store in one trip around the ‘track.’
“What is different about our store is we have an open layout and design, as opposed to regular Old Navy where you walk in and they have walls going all the way up, where we are more open,” she said. “We feature what is called a ‘race track’ so you can go around the store and hit all the departments and you go in a circle, much like a race track. Our cash rap up front you will see up front is just easier for checking out and it is more open.”
Ambers said her clientele has been a “good mix” of locals and out-of-towners stopping through to shop the clothing selection. She added that the store will be a nice fit with the other outlet stores at Legends and her team is looking forward to its new location.
“Definitely we fit in with all the other stores,” she said. “I think our price points are pretty comparable to all the other stores. We also have our brand family in Gap and Banana Republic here as well and we are all right across from one another.
“We were able to bring everyone over from our previous location and then we were also able to pick employees when the Kietzke (Lane) store closed. So we have a really great team and I know we are all excited to be here and be working together. We have been having a lot of fun not only with what we do day-to-day, but with our customers as well.”
Catherine Oaks, marketing director for Legends, said Thursday that Old Navy was “absolutely fitting” to its operations and its plan to become a local and tourist destination in Sparks. She said Old Navy is not the only business who will be moving in this year.
“Buffalo Wild Wings will be starting construction soon and opening in August of this year,” Oaks said. “They will be in the BJ’s area and it is good for Legends because it attracts a whole new market segment.”
Oaks was unable to make official announcements on any other prospective tenants currently looking to inhabit Legends, but she added that “three or four stores” would be coming up in the next few months and announcements for them would be forthcoming.
Oaks also said Legends is still in the process of bringing the regions first IMAX movie theater to its shopping-dominant layout. She was unable to comment on the progress of the proposed casino/resort originally planned at Legends adding that unfinished plans would not allow official comment.
“The theater was part of the original plans and is part of the attraction of bringing in tourists as well as local people,” Oaks said. “We expect to break ground pretty soon and that announcement should come in a couple of weeks. We are hoping to have the theater finalized by the end of this year.”
Oaks said Legends is also busy preparing for the upcoming summer and event seasons. She said aside from the various charity running events happening throughout the Sparks Marina, Legends will bring some new events to east Sparks this summer.
“On our end we have craft fair that is going to start May 5 and go every third Saturday of the month,” Oaks said. “We are also launching something new which is an antique fair and will be featuring local antique dealers. We always try to help our community by providing some exposure to local stores and dealers.”
Oaks said a Back to School Fair is scheduled from August 3 to August 5 featuring free immunizations for children and their families. The Mom and Me Health Fair is another new event coming to Legends this year after its partnership with Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center.
“We want to be involved in the community more and more because that is why this was built,” Oaks said. “We want to make sure we help, and whenever we can be in win-win situations that is where we are going to be.”
