Tribune/Dan McGee - At the start of one of their pro motos, Donnie Weber (388) uses an inside move to get past Reece Honea (681). They would finish in that order at the end of the day's racing.

FERNLEY - Round three of the Sierra Motocross Association's spring series brought motocross back to the sand of the Fernley Motocross Track. And since it was the first weekend of spring, Mother Nature decided to spice up things with a dash of cold, a lot of wind and some snow as a topping.
Ignoring the weather, the racers bundled up and staged a day of hard racing Sunday.
After sweeping both big bike pro motos, Donnie Webber said with a laugh, "Yes, it's a little windy today but other than that, it's fun. I knew how close he was but you've got to take what you can get."
The chaser was MRANN regular Reece Honea, who was competing in a rare motocross.
When the second moto began Honea and Webber arrived at the first turn side-by-side. Then Webber took the point with an inside move and they flew over the first jump nose-to-tail.
In the end, Webber prevailed but Honea at least kept him honest, as he was only a few seconds behind the leader.
There were no pros racing in the 125/250 class, which was won by Christian Huber from Winnemucca.
Although he took the lead early in his first moto, Huber had company when the second began.
"I pulled out pretty quick in the first but this time I didn't get a good gate and it's pretty hard to pass out here," he said. "It kind of turned to one line and you've got to make a pass when ever you can. The wind, I'm not really afraid of it, yea it's dangerous but if you jump into it, you're pretty fine."
The only other pro winnner was Scott Stillmock, who topped the 30 class.
The 40 races saw two brothers score class victories as well as the overall win.
When the gate dropped, Gilbert Chick, who ran in the expert division, was in hot pursuit of leader Max Brokaw. Soon, Chick faded and was passed by his brother Scott, who had a bead on the fleeing leader.
As the race progressed, the elder Chick held his third place while the younger one slowly closed the gap. As the leaders stormed over the finish line jump, Scott Chick pulled along side Brokaw and took the point.
When the checkered waved it was a Chick family one-three, while Brokaw ended up second. Later both leaders congratulated each other on a good race.
"That was a last lap dash," Scott Chick said. "I was just sitting in second, waiting for him to make a mistake and he made one and I capitalized."
Then Gilbert Chick said, "Third overall but still won my class. My brother did beat me twice today and it was very good for him."
Making an even happier occasion, Scott Chick welcomed a new grandson into the family this past week when his daughter-in-law gave birth.
Once again Shami Potratz won both of the Women's motos but she was chased by 12-year-old Allyson Miller, who also finished second in the Supermini division.
During the day, riders first had to endure the cold, then wind and in the afternoon some of the younger riders also had to deal with blowing snow.
When the dust settled, Weslee Valerio, Christian Huber and Corwin McIntosh had all scored victories in two different divisions.
Despite the wind, the medics had a pretty uneventful day as they only had to respond to only one crash and that ended with the rider being driven back to the pits.
Next week, with hopefully better weather, the show repeats itself as SMRA hosts the fourth round of its series at Fernley.
Saturday's action begins at noon as the Pee Wees, Beginning 65cc riders and Quad racers compete. Then on Sunday starting around 10 a.m., the rest of the classes get their turn on the sandy, technical course.
•This weekend is the annual AMA District 36/MRANN shootout. This time the event will be held outside of Toulon, in the Lovelock area.
Saturday's action begins at 9 a.m. with the Pee Wees and ends with the Beginning Women's race. Then, at 10 a.m. Sunday, the big bikes take to the track for the showdown.
Two years ago D-36 spanked the MRANN racers, who got their revenge last year. So bragging rights will be at stake in Sunday's action.
Nevada GFI will host its second round at the Honey Lake Motocross Park Saturday. With the Loretta Lynn Qualifier slated for April 4-5 at the track, a large field is expected.
Then on Sunday, the Honey Lake track will start the first round of its GP series.
OTHER RACING NEWS
•Three of NASCAR's Nevada Quartet were at the Bristol Motor Speedway this weekend. In Saturday's Nationwide race a flat dropped pole sitter Brandan Gaughan to 21 while Kyle Busch ended up sixth.
On Sunday Kyle Busch won the Sprint Cup event while his brother Kurt, who won last week's event, finished 11th. That makes it three-in-a-row for the brothers Busch.
