RENO — The Honorary Deputy Sheriff’s Association has generously underwritten the Shop with the Sheriff annual holiday shopping spree for hundreds of needy children for ten years, donating about half a million dollars to create a memorable holiday event that has touched the lives of thousands of local families.

This year’s Shop with the Sheriff took place at the Damonte Walmart Superstore in south Reno on Dec. 4.

Children are pre-selected through local social services agencies. Each child is partnered with a member of the Honorary Association or a volunteer from the Sheriff’s Office and taken on a store-wide shopping spree where they are allowed to spend up to $200 on clothes and toys for themselves as well as for members of their family. Restrictions on the nature and amount of funds which can be used for electronic games and devices are observed.

Every child also received a $50 gift card to be used specifically for groceries for their families.
