RENO — The Manogue Minors Music Ensemble will be performing on a volunteer basis throughout the Reno-Sparks area hospitals, nursing homes and other care facilities this holiday season. At 10 a.m. Saturday, the group will be at the Sierra Nevada Veteran’s Administration Medical Center located at 975 Kirman Ave. in Reno. This performance will include traditional Christmas music, including familiar carols, instrumental pieces and more. Solo performances by Jens Verhey, pianist, and Hank Bingham, guitarist, will be featured.

The group was founded by Bishop Manogue student Jens Verhey, to provide music to those facing health problems and loneliness. Research shows that music can be a form of therapy—alleviating pain and stress, promoting wellness and reducing loneliness.

Besides Verhey, a pianist with nine years of experience, the group consists of guitarists Hank Bingham and Austin Baldridge and vocalists Alex Banales, Ysabelle Leron and Ann Shoen. All the musicians are juniors at Bishop Manouge.
