Senior Lyndsey Anderson scored 13 points and snagged 10 rebounds in leading the SSHS hoopsters to the non-conference victory. She got plenty of offensive support from her Cougar teammates. Riley Holladay chipped in 12 points, while Laneesha Terrance and Mariah Vargas added 11 and 10 points respectively.
The Cougars were never rally threatened as they ran out to a 13-2 lead and held a 19-4 edge at the first quarter's conclusion.
Center (1-1) stopped the bleeding in the second quarter but could not cut into the Spanish Springs lead. The Cougars held a 34-17 advantage at the half.
Any slim hopes Center had of getting back in contention were dashed quickly in the third period. Spanish springs scored 14 of the first 16 points in the third quarter to essentially put the game away. Vargas capped the outburst with a 3-pointer from the corner.
Another Vargas corner trey, late in the third, gave Spanish Springs its biggest lead of the game at 51-20.
The guests helped their cause with a 41-33 rebounding edge.
"We did some good things today," Spanish Springs coach Christine Eckles said. "I thought we shared the ball well and made the extra pass tonight. We got contributions from a lot of kids. It's early. We just need to build on this and keep trying to get better."
Spanish Springs (2-0) will play at Roseville (CA) Saturday at 1 p.m.
