SPARKS — Early registration is open through Thursday for the 14th annual Scheels Turkey Trot event held in Sparks on Thanksgiving Day. Every year the race brings together walkers and runners of all ages and abilities for a healthy kick-off to a holiday filled with eating.

The start and finish line will be located in Scheels parking lot at Legends at the Sparks Marina. Trotters can choose from a 10K timed run or a 2-mile run/walk. The 10K race begins at 8:30 a.m. and will follow a route along city streets and the local bike path. The 2-mile run/walk begins shortly thereafter and will wind around the Sparks Marina Park..

Entry fees are $25 through Thursday, $35 from Nov. 19-21 during pre-packet pick up only, or $60 on race day. Every runner and walker will receive a commemorative sweatshirt and post race refreshments. Proceeds benefit Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful for local beautification projects.

Register online at www.active.com or download an entry form at www.sparksrec.com. Entry forms also are available at the Sparks Recreation Office, 98 Richards Way, and at Scheels, 1200 Scheels Dr. Early registration is recommended to guarantee desired shirt size.

For the comfort and safety of others, dogs, bikes, skateboards, scooters and skates are prohibited at the event.
