It was a long night for the Sparks Railroaders. The SHS gridders gave up 30 unanswered points to open the game were saddled with a 68-6 road loss in Division 1-A North prep football action Friday night

Dayton blew out to a 30-0 lead at halftime. That was still the score until the latter half of the third quarter when Sparks finally got on the scoreboard. The visiting Railroaders posted their lone touchdown with three minutes to go in the first quarter. It came on a 5-yard touchdown run by Hennessey Banks.

Things went from bad to worse for Sparks. Dayton (3-5) put up 38 unanswered points in the final 15 minutes of action and the margin got uglier fast.

"It was a combination of turnovers, giving up a short field and everything else," Sparks coach Rob Kittrell said. "They were running two base plays and we didn't stop it. In the fourth quarter, their last two TDs were pretty ugly. It was disappointing to say the least.

"We just got manhandled up front. They were big and physical. They disrupted everything we wanted to do. It's definitely disappointing. We've talked about getting better every week, but I feel like we took a step back this week."

Sparks (0-9) is in action again Thursday night when it wraps up its fall campaign with a road game at Wooster.
