When officers arrived, they found Rios-Gomez detained by a neighbor. Rios-Gomez’ wife was located in a separate home where she was taken for safety and suffering from what appeared to be stab wounds. A knife was located in close proximity to Rios-Gomez.
Officers and detectives learned the following:
Rios-Gomez and his wife have been separated and planned to divorce. The couple has been reportedly arguing over property and child custody. Rios-Gomez attacked his wife in their bedroom with a knife. Their teenaged daughter heard her mother’s screams for help and attempted to enter the bedroom. She found the door locked and forcibly entered the bedroom and found her father, Rios-Gomez, straddling her mother on the bed hitting her. The teen interrupted the attack by tackling her father to the floor.
The victim was able to escape the trailer the family shared and run outside for help. Rios-Gomez followed her moments later and pushed her to the ground in front of a neighboring trailer. He stabbed and punched the victim who pleaded for him to stop.
A married couple residing in the trailer where the attack occurred outside on their property witnessed Rios-Gomez follow his wife out of their home and attack her with a knife. Fearing for the victim’s life, the male resident exited his home and struck Rios-Gomez in his head and restrained his arms until police arrival.
Rios-Gomez explained to investigators that he planned to kill his wife. He instructed their minor children to leave the home this morning with the exception of their teenaged daughter who refused to go. Rios-Gomez explained in detail how he planned to carry out his intention to kill his estranged wife and his plans to end his own life after killing her.
The victim was treated and released from a local hospital for several puncture wounds and lacerations that are not life threatening. The victim’s name and location is being withheld as she is a victim of domestic violence.
