Members of the Women’s Club at Red Hawk Golf and Resort are helping pass down the game that they love and some of their recent recipients were the boys and girls golf teams at Spanish Springs High School.

Along with donations of $1,000 to both the First Tee program of Northern Nevada as well as Moms on the Run, the RHWGC also contributed $1,000 to the Cougar golf programs, with each receiving $500.

“When we started making money from our member-guest tournament, we decided back then to donate it back into the community,” RHWGC Captain Barbara Hartmann said. “One of the reasons that we keyed in on Spanish Springs High golf is because obviously we want to promote golf and as we all know, money for schools is really tight.

“When we spoke with coaches, they had indicated that because they have so few students on the teams, they get very little financial support, so it all falls on the parents. We all enjoy the sport and we all like the young kids coming up learning the sport.”

The donation was appreciated by Spanish Springs.

“The Red Hawk Women’s Club has been very generous to the golf programs at SSHS over the last few years,” said Nick Wirshing, coach of the Spanish Springs boys golf team. “In the three years since I’ve been the golf coach, the Women’s Club has given over $2,000 to the boys and girls golf programs. The guys and girls golfers, and the school as a whole, really appreciate all that the Women’s Club has done and continues to do for us over the years. The efforts of the ladies at Red Hawk ease the financial burden that we put on the parents of our golfers each year. Without donations like this, things would be much more difficult for the coaches, players, and parents of the SSHS golf programs.”
