WINNEMUCCA — The Scrap Domestic Violence Fund, Inc., (ScrapDV) was created earlier this year from an idea devised by Kristin Carriere, co-owner of CarWil-Engineered Mining Solutions, in which scrap steel would be recycled as a funding source for domestic violence programs throughout Nevada. Mining, industrial and manufacturing companies along with private donors can now entrust ScrapDV to use the money raised from their donations to invest in innovative and proven domestic violence programs to create lasting and empowering change. In addition, ScrapDV will also invest in statewide awareness projects brining attention to domestic violence and its effect on Nevadans.

As an organization, ScrapDV will actively seek funding within the mining industry. The goal is to proactively partner with mines based in Nevada and the surrounding areas to take donations of their discarded scrap metals which in turn can be recycled for cash revenue for ScrapDV to use in the campaign to end domestic violence within Nevada

ScrapDV’s mission is two-fold. They aim to create proactive awareness on the effects of domestic abuse within Nevada, where the domestic violence homicide rate is twice the national average, while reactively funding, through grants, domestic abuse programs and shelters within the state. ScrapDV funds programs whose primary focus are victims of domestic violence. Each program they fund helps improve facilities and services that encourage survivors to reach their fullest potential and achieve self-sufficiency through encouragement, case management, accountability, awareness and trust in a positive and secure environment.

If you or someone you know is seeking assistance call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-888-799-SAFE. For more information about ScrapDV, visit www.scrapdv.org.
