SPARKS — Join the Sparks Fire Department for a great pancake breakfast and open house to kickoff National Fire Prevention Week Oct. 6. Drop by the main fire station located at 1605 Victorian Ave. between 8 a.m. and noon for pancakes, ham, eggs and more served by our own city leaders and firefighters. Have fun, enjoy a great breakfast and learn about the many ways Sparks Fire Department helps keep us all safe.

This year’s theme, “Have 2 Ways Out,” goes hand in hand with the Project SAFE Residential Smoke Alarm Program. According to the National Fire Protection Association, many people underestimate how fast fire spreads, so they don’t take escape planning seriously. The reality is that when fire strikes, your home could be engulfed in smoke and flames in just a few minutes. It is important to have a home fire escape plan that prepares your family to think fast and exit quickly when the smoke alarm sounds.

All proceeds generated support local fire prevention activities and victims of fire. Adult breakfasts cost $5, or $4 with a can of food for the Food Bank of Northern Nevada; children younger than 12 and seniors cost $2. There is free parking and shuttle service provided. Park west of the theater on C Street at Victorian Plaza; look for the Boys and Girls Club of Truckee Meadows shuttle.
