The Reed boys soccer team was dealt a heart-breaking loss Monday night against its first High Desert League opponent.

Reno scored in the closing minutes of the match, taking a 1-0 decision at the east Sparks school.

“I felt my team dominated in every aspect of the game, but we just missed too many 1-on-1 opportunities up top,” Reed boys soccer coach Joel Martinez said. “They capitalized on one mistake, and that’s all they needed.”

Reed goalkeeper Josh Reyes had six saves, but he couldn’t stop a William Yepez shot in the 73rd minute. Reno caught the Raider defense off guard by clearing the ball long and sending a cross over to Yepez, setting up his goal to the lower right of Reyes.

Martinez believes his team still played well and shouldn’t hang its heads over the tough loss.

Reed (1-1-1) is at Hug Wednesday for a 5:30 p.m. contest.
