CARSON CITY (AP) — Nevada Democrats increased a voter registration lead over Republicans in August.

Figures released Tuesday by the secretary of state's office show Democrats registered 12,163 voters last month, compared with 5,042 voters who registered Republican. Another 6,575 voters registered as non-partisan.

The latest numbers give Democrats a 55,716 statewide voter registration advantage over the GOP with two months until the November election.

Democrats account for 41 percent of Nevada voters; Republicans make up 36 percent; and nearly 17 percent are nonpartisans. The remaining voters are affiliated with minor political parties.
