Republicans have a weird sense of humor. They saved a “mystery” speaker for the final night of their political circus. Hollywood’s aging octogenarian Clint Eastwood entered stage right. He remembered he needed a prop and had a chair brought on stage. Like a ventriloquist speaking to a dummy, he created a dialogue with the invisible President Obama sitting on the empty chair. Eastwood asked the President “What do you want me to tell Mr. Romney?” Hearing the answer from the empty chair, Eastwood said “I can’t tell him that. He can’t do that to himself, you’re getting as bad a Biden.” Eastwood then used his index finger to gesture in effigy the cutting of Obama’s throat. Eastwood should be advised that threatening the President of the United States is a class D felony under United States Code Title 18, Section 871. It consists of knowingly and willfully making “any threat to take the life of, to kidnap, or to inflict bodily harm upon the President of the United States.”
The Christians roared with laughter. Mitt and his wife Ann set aside their Mormon values of conservative purity and laughed at the disrespectful, threatening and off-color insults aimed at the President of the United States. Was the skit funny? Yes! But was it appropriate in an atmosphere where conservatives preached for two days in the political arena to promote their Christian agenda to the electorate? No! Was it scripted and sanctioned by the RNC? Of course it was and that’s the hypocrisy of Republicans.
Trying to portray Obama as a liar, Paul Ryan indicted himself as one. He said that when Obama was Campaigning In Janesville, Wisconsin, where Ryan grew up, Obama made a speech at a major G.M. plant that was about to be shut down. Obama said, “I believe that if our government is there to support you, this plant will be here for another 100 years.” That’s what he said in 2008. Well, as it turned out, that plant didn’t last another year. It is locked up and empty to this day. What Ryan didn’t say was that the plant closed during the last months of the Bush administration before Obama became president and could have saved the plant when he saved the rest of the Auto industry. So, Ryan lied to the convention delegates and the American people.
Ryan noted that Mitt Romney is prayerful, faithful and honorable and that their faiths come together in the same moral creed. He said,”Each one of us was made for a reason, bearing the image and likeness of the lord of life. The greatest of all responsibilities, is that of the strong to protect the weak. The truest measure of any society is how it treats those who cannot defend or care for themselves. Each of these great moral ideas is essential to a democratic government. They are the moral creed of our country, as powerful in our time, as on the day of America’s founding. Sometimes, even presidents need reminding, that our rights come from nature and God, and not from government.” Too bad Republicans don’t practice what they preach.
Republicans are not members of a political party. Their platform is based on the belief in God- their God; not democratic principles of compromise. War, fear, punishment and suppression is their mantra: War with anyone in the world who disagrees with them or their God. Fear of collective punishment to anyone who stands up for their individual rights. Suppression of a women’s freedom if she dares to eat the forbidden fruit of knowledge or tries to defend and protect the nature that God gave her from the tight grip of a Republican controlled government.
Everything said;Eastwood made my day. An empty chair, empty headed actor, hate, lies and lack of respect for President Obama might be just what the Democrats needed to win a second term in the Whitehouse.
