Four days after falling in the semifinals of the season-opening Las Vegas High School tournament, the Reed High volleyball team was back in action Wednesday.

Reed picked up a 25-21, 25-19, 25-15 sweep in a non-league match at South Tahoe, improving to 7-1 on the young season.

“I felt we got off to a slow start and obviously with not having our normal setter, it was a little tougher,” Reed coach Kristen Flagtvedt said. “I thought it took a while for our hitters to get used to a different setter, but each game we finished a little stronger.”

Kelsey Donohoe had six kills to lead the RHS offense. Taylor Baer chipped in four kills and got up six digs. Taylor Whitehead lifted 12 digs for Reed and served up a pair of aces. Moriah Maluotoga, Reed’s all-league outside hitter, had to set for the Raiders Wednesday in the absence of starter Taylor Stefan and she gave away 14 assists.

“I got to see some different people in different positions to see how’d they do,” Flagtvedt said. “I especially got to see some players new to varsity. It was really nice to get their feet wet in more game situations.”

Reed returns to the court this weekend in the annual Galena High tourney. The Raiders open pool play at 4 p.m. Friday at Bishop Manogue High School.
