SPARKS -- A fire in the 1100 block of Rock Boulevard was reported at about 6 p.m. by a Sparks Fire Department engine crew who was in the area.

Fire Marshal Bob King said first-arriving firefighters discovered fire on the inside and outside of the building, leaving them to investigate whether the fire's initial ignition point.

King said there has already been one fire at the vacant building at 1107 Rock Blvd. in the past and is currently a project of the city to have it cleaned, boarded and fenced. He said the owner of the building has not responded to letters being sent about the building's possible condemnation.

"We are currently going through a process right now to have this building cleaned up, and this fire may help speed up that process," King said.

King said it is unknown whether the fire was started intentionally and the investigation is currently in progress.

King said one man was reportedly in the area at the time of the fire and police were questioning him as fire crews were clearing the house of flames and smoke.
