RENO — Troopers from the Nevada Highway Patrol were dispatched to a single-vehicle rollover Wednesday evening on Alt US 395 in Washoe County, about 1,024 feet north of mile marker six. The preliminary investigation indicates that a 2006 Volkswagen Jetta occupied by a female, was traveling southbound on the two-lane highway near mile marker six. For an unknown reason the Volkswagen crossed the northbound lane, over corrected re-entering the southbound lane before leaving roadway edge and striking the embankment on the east side of Alt US395. The vehicle then struck a wood fence and overturned. The driver was wearing her seatbelt and it is unknown at this time if alcohol was a factor.
The driver sustained fatal injuries at the scene. The highway was not closed for the collision. The name of the victim in yesterday’s fatal crash won’t be released until the Washoe County Medical Examiner’s Office positively confirms her identity.
Trooper Douglas Hildebrand of the Major Accident Investigation Team or M.A.I.T. is investigating this case. Witnesses or anyone with additional information to the event are encouraged to call him at 775-721-1747 regarding case number 120828211.
