SPARKS — The Nevada Highway Patrol and the Sparks Police Department recently entered into an official joint agreement where each agency leader signed a memorandum of understanding, or MOU, defining the roles and responsibilities each entity will provide as it relates to traffic management and enforcement on the section of McCarran Boulevard between the Truckee River and El Rancho Drive. This agreement also includes the section of Pyramid Way from Nugget Avenue to Queen Way within the city limits of Sparks.

In an effort to allow Sparks police officers to respond to other pending calls for service, troopers from the NHP will now be handling those calls for service involving disabled vehicles, all motor vehicle crashes and other traffic-related functions on these two sections of roadway.

Additionally, and to reduce the time to complete the on-scene portion of a serious injury or fatality crash, most of the larger and complex intersections have already been, or are in the process of, mapped to scale by our Major Accident Investigation Team or M.A.I.T. members.
