The victory snapped a season-high six-game losing streak for the Aces, and kept the club’s division lead at five games with just 17 games remaining in the regular season.
Bauer (5-1) surrendered a run in the first, and was nearly unhittable after that. His effort marked just the second complete game by a Reno pitcher at Aces Ballpark in franchise history—the first since Billy Buckner dealt nine shutout frames on July 31, 2009. Bauer scattered just two runs on five hits, walking one and striking out a career-high 12 batters.
The loss fell to Express starter Greg Reynolds (10-8), who allowed two earned runs on seven hits over seven innings.
At the plate for Reno, Adam Eaton and Cole Gillespie finished with three hits apiece. Mike Jacobs hit his 18th home run in the season in the fourth inning.
The Aces now hit the road for a brief four-game swing through Tacoma. In Saturday’s opener, RHP Joe Martinez (10-10, 5.79 ERA) gets the nod for Reno, while the Rainiers will counter with RHP Hector Noesi (1-4, 7.04 ERA). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. PT, and the action can be listened to live on Fox Sports 630 AM or by visiting RenoAces.com.
The Aces return home on Wednesday to kick-off a five-game set against the Fresno Grizzlies, Triple-A Affiliate of the San Francisco Giants. Tickets are on-sale now at RenoAces.com, by calling (775) 334-7000 or by visiting the Aces Ballpark Ticket Office.
