SPARKS — To celebrate Save Mart’s sponsorship of Hot August Nights with its customers, associates and the community, Grocer’s Giant Custom Hot Rod Grocery Cart, Big Red, will be appearing at Nevada Save Mart locations and in several controlled street cruises. Accompanying Big Red will be the Hot August Nights Consumer Contest Grand Prize — a 2012 45th Anniversary Edition Camaro Coupe.

Big Red will be at the Save Mart Supermarket located at 565 E. Prater Way from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. today and at the 10500 N. McCarran Blvd location from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday. Big Red will also take part in the official kick-off cruise in downtown Reno at 7 p.m. today and the official parade at 10 a.m. Sunday.

Big Red is 12 feet 6 inches tall, 8 feet 3 inches wide, and 11 feet long and weighs 3,000 pounds. Its 28 gallon fuel tank uses 110 Octane Sunoco race fuel. The engine is a Watson Racing Chevy 454 commanding 520 horse power and 550 foot pounds of torque. Big Red was built for speed and is capable of accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in approximately eight seconds. Top racing speed has yet to be determined.

The 2012 45th Anniversary Edition Camaro Coupe has a 3.6 LT V6 engine, 6 Speed automatic transmission and is valued at more than $30,000.
