Omaha took an early lead with a run in the third, but the Aces eventually would fire back. Mike Jacobs knocked in two runs with two outs in the sixth to give the Aces their first lead of the game. Clinging to a 2-1 lead in the ninth, Gillespie hit a two-run home run in the frame to provide the Aces with a three-run cushion. Those insurance runs proved to be necessary, as Omaha scratched across a run in the bottom of the ninth. That cut the Storm Chasers deficit to two, but they’d get no closer.
Brewer (8-6) collected his fourth-straight victory, scattering eight hits with four strikeouts and no walks. After his exit, Matt Gorgen worked a perfect seventh, Sam Demel tossed a 1-2-3 eighth, and Bryan Shaw slammed the door ninth for the save.
The hard-luck loss fell to Omaha starter Nate Adcock (6-4), who surrendered two unearned runs on seven hits with eight strikeouts over eight innings.
At the dish for Reno, Jacobs continued his torrid stretch with three more hits and two RBIs. Taylor Harbin went 2-for-3, while Gillespie’s ninth-inning homer was his 13th of the season.
