CARSON CITY — Northern Nevada Development Authority (NNDA) announced this week the appointment of Maurice Washington as the organization’s new Deputy Director.
Rob Hooper, NNDA executive director since 2009, made the announcement at the NNDA board of directors meeting on July 18.
“Since joining NNDA more than a year and a half ago, Maurice has proven to be a great asset for the Sierra Region’s economic future,” Hooper said. “His calm demeanor, leadership skills and political knowledge has contributed to NNDA’s ability to be selected as one of the Regional Development Authorities. This is an important designation that will affect the areas of Carson City, Douglas, Lyon and Churchill counties and Virginia City in Storey County. This is the right time for the right person to get things done!”
Washington is a former Nevada State Senator having represented Washoe District No. 2. His 16 years in the Nevada legislature working on numerous bills supporting all aspects of economic development are being put to good use within the NNDA structure.
He has lived in northern Nevada for more than 25 years and has been active in many community projects and events.
“This is an exciting time to be in economic development and I am pleased to take on this new role at NNDA,” Washington said. “Having the opportunity to use my skills and resources to help create jobs and bring Nevada’s economy back up is very rewarding.”
As Deputy Director, Washington will be responsible for leading many of the NNDA initiatives including the cut-n-sew center being developed in Douglas County, a potential meat packing plant in Lyon County, Healthcare Information Exchange system in Nevada, along with the “Think Local, Buy Local” campaign, to name a few.
