RENO — A Reno man died Thursday after having a medical problem while driving. He was the only person involved in the accident and an investigation is being conducted to discover the nature of the incident.

On Thursday at about 1:50 p.m., officers from the Reno Police Department Traffic Division responded to the 800 block of Caughlin Crossing Road on a report of a single-vehicle accident in which the driver had fallen out of the vehicle and died.

The Reno Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) responded to the scene and investigated the incident.  According to the investigation, it appears the driver, a 64-year-old male Reno resident, had a medical event while operating his Jeep Grand Cherokee. The driver fell out of the vehicle and sustained major injuries that were not survivable. It is unclear if the medical event or the injuries sustained from the fall are the cause of death at this time, police said.

The name of the driver is being withheld pending the notification to his next of kin.

Anyone who might have witnessed this incident is encouraged to contact the Reno police at 334-2115, or Secret Witness at 322-4900, report online at or text the information to 847411 (TIP 411) keyword “SW.”
