RENO — Jason Childs, principal at Florence Drake Elementary School, was named Distinguished Elementary Principal of the Year for Nevada on Friday by the state affiliate of the National Association of Elementary School Principals.

“This is a tremendous honor, and it’s a tribute to the outstanding staff at Florence Drake,” Childs said. “But what I’m most proud of is the wonderful students and their parents who have always been so supportive for our school community. As a team, they have dedicated themselves to success, and I am honored to have had the opportunity to work for them as principal at Florence Drake.”

Childs began his career at WCSD as a teacher at Sierra Vista Elementary and Alice Maxwell Elementary. He also served as vice principal at Libby Booth before accepting principal posts at Natchez and Florence Drake. He will serve as principal at Virginia Palmer Elementary School next year.
