RENO — Saturday will mark the one-year anniversary since the tragic death of Keia M. Guia’s 9-month-old son, Elijah’s, death.

The cause of his death is still unknown but his mother has spent much of the past year creating the E.L.I. group in her son’s memory (E.L.I. also stands for Every Life is Important).

“He lost his life under the care of his babysitter,” Guia said. “From Elijah’s death I have been inspired to make changes for the safety and protection of children, and in my son’s memory I have created the E.L.I. Group.”

E.L.I. Group is a fully incorporated non-profit organization with the mission to provide grief share and personal advocacy for victims of violent crimes.

“We will publicly fight for change in laws regarding the justice, safety and protection of children,” Guia said. “Partner with us as we move forward in our efforts to unite community organizations and become a central hub to empower lives, by giving services and resources to those in need in an expedited way.”

E.L.I. Group announced the grand opening of the ELI Group facility this week. An event will be held Saturday at 120 Vine Street in Reno.

The event Starts at 3 p.m. and the Chamber of Commerce will host a ribbon cutting ceremony at 4 p.m.

The organization is inviting the public to join in the event.

“We invite you to come and and support us, be a part of something making a difference in the community, and meet others who support the ELI Group. We will have food, drinks, entertainment and more. Celebrate with us, as we are excited to begin breaking the silence and making changes in the lives of children and victims of violent crimes. The ceremony will close with a balloon release at 7:30 p.m. in honor of baby Elijah’s life. We look forward to seeing you there!” said Guia
